What are you grateful for?
If you are new to our online community here at Private Practice from the Inside Out, welcome! And, if you have been with us before, welcome back!
As a way of building our “gratitude muscles” and to help our colleagues build theirs, too, every Friday we will be hosting Mustard Seeds & Mega-Gifts: A Community Gratitude Journal. Here you can share the large and small gifts and opportunities that come your way while building your private practice.
Sally Blevins, MA, LPC says . . .
This week I made a visit to a new pediatric physician group’s new office. I had been communicating by email to set up this visit once they were settled in their new space. I was warmly welcomed, introduced to the staff. It was a pleasant and hopefully productive introduction.”
And, as for me . . .
I have a lot to be grateful for this week! And, at the top of my list is Jennifer Hume! Jenni is a colleague that has just moved back to Littleton, Colorado from San Francisco a few months ago. She doesn’t really know any mental health professionals here and was just reaching out to strangers that might help her get connected.
We met this week to share a bite to eat and talk about networking opportunities here in Colorado. She is bright and lovely – a delight to add to my circle of colleagues. I am always grateful when colleagues demonstrate courage . . . and even for us who are extroverts . . . picking up the phone or shooting off an email to a total stranger models an openness and courage that supports me on my journey!”
If you would like to build your own gratitude muscles by sharing your appreciations with us, here is how our gratitude journal works . . . .
- It will post weekly on Fridays.
- Your job is not to just be a passive observer but to contribute to the post by sharing something that you are grateful for.
- Just send an email note of appreciation related to anything that supports you growing your practice and put “Mustard Seeds” in the subject line.
- I’ll post it the following Friday as part of our community gratitude journal!
- And, if you forget to send an email, you are welcome to just add your appreciations to the comments of the weekly post!
- Afraid you’ll forget or slack off on sharing what you are grateful for? You can sign up here to receive blog updates for Private Practice from the Inside Out (that you can use as nudges and reminders to share your appreciations) in your email inbox.
Research indicates that by consciously savoring those large and small gifts that come way, our joy and ability to recognize other opportunities are intensified.

Today my team and I had our first retreat. I am very grateful for the people who are co-creating a dream at our clinic to heal ourselves, heal our clients and heal our community. We talked about our intentions, learned about our personality types and how to build trust within our team. We plan on revisiting our intentions through a clinic journal and visiting our intentions every six months as a team. I am very blessed that I have such a dedicated, commited group of people to work with.

Oooooh, Cherie! Now you have all of our attention! What team? How cool! Tell us more! Love the idea of a clinic journal. What’s that like? And, how is it your team “revisit your intentions?” Is there a formal process that you can share?
Thanks, Cherie for taking the time to share your appreciations here. I’m happy to learn from you!
