I’ve missed you guys! After three weeks of presenting – first in Denver at the Colorado Counseling Association’s annual conference and then at the American Counseling Association’s pre-conference Learning Institute, I’ve been away too long! And, so have you. Welcome back!
Here’s a quick peek at what I was talking about at the Colorado Counseling Association . . . . .
And, . . . .
And, . . . this is what I presented at the American Counseling Association’s pre-conference Learning Institute . . .
And, here’s glimpse of some of the counselors who worked on identifying their own countertransference in my ACA workshop . . . .
If you made it into my workshops or met me at one of the conferences, I hope you’ll drop in here and stay in touch! And, if you were unable to get into one of my workshops this time, I hope you’ll make it to the next ones. Better yet . . . bring me to your home state for a presentation and I’ll be happy to meet you there!

All of these workshops sound spectacular! Do you give talks in Southern California? If not, would it be possible to see a few tidbits or slides from these presentations? I am an ever curious intern and a started working in a private practice setting almost 6 months ago.
Tamara Suttle says
Hi, Kourtney! Welcome! I don’t remember seeing you here. How did you find me? And, Thank you so much for your kind words! I hope to begin posting some of the content from my recent workshops in blog posts here in the next month so stay tuned!
I was just in your beautiful state, as you can see, presenting at the American Counseling Association’s annual conference. However, I’m always looking for opportunities to get back to California and would welcome an invitation to present in San Diego! I am currently working on my Fall 2012 – Spring 2013 speaking calendar so feel free to pass my name along to those who arrange such things at your school or in your community. I can provide references and a range of topics that I can speak / facilitate.
Additionally, I offer 1:1 and group consulting / coaching – both face to face and long distance for a fee. Occassionally, you will also see tele-classes and groups that I offer related to various aspects of building a private practice. Some are free; some have a fee.
Thank you, Kourtney, for taking time to introduce yourself and comment. It helps me to know where to focus my writing and services. And, I always look forward to meeting mental health professionals around the globe. I do hope you’ll stay in touch and drop in to chat often. And, hopefully you and I will have an opportunity to meet in Southern California during the next 12 months!

Hi Tamara,
Thank you for the warm welcome! I found your site through a counseling forum/community I came across recently. I wish I could recall the name, but it’s for intern and practicum students looking to network, and you were listed in the recommended blog’s section. I believe the moderator’s name is Stephanie. I will definitely keep you name in mind for our local San Diego chapter of CAMFT, as they send out a general email every now again requesting recommendations for presentations and speakers.
I would love to keep in touch and I have already signed up for your newsletter. I also have a blog that you can peruse at your please at http://atherapeuticendeavor.blogspot.com/ Feel free to comment; I am always looking for more interaction and fellow clinicians to bounce ideas and thought processes off of.
Hopefully we will get to meet in person in the future, but for now you have my warmest regards!

Kourtney, I just checked out your website to learn a little bit more about you. Happy to meet another feminist and loved your book list. It reminded me that I still haven’t picked up Mary Pipher’s book. Got to do that!

Those sound like fabulous sessions! 🙂 And yes, I was missing your posts. Glad you’re back!
Tamara Suttle says
Hi, Stephanie! How kind of you to say so! I’m back! Rejuvenated and brimming with new information and ideas to share with you guys about how to help those ideal clients find you, how to keep them, and how to build and sustain a thriving practice in mental health!

Welcome back, Ms. Tamara! And I did check in every so often just to make sure you weren’t back yet. I’m so excited for you having presented (in particular) about taboo topics (since we know these are issues near and dear to my heart). How did it go? I’ve been thinking about you (and realizing I need to respond to your kind comments on *my* blog- you caught me on vacation, and, evidently, my brain stopped for a period of time) and sending good vibes your way. Can’t wait to hear more about the presentations! Good for you for shaking it up and talking therapy “trash”. Hm. Not sure that came out right. Hopefully you got the general gist. So glad I’ll be reading your lovely posts again!
Tamara Suttle says
Hi, Roia! So glad to be back and find your voice here, too! I had a terrific group in California – they were very open to working with countertransference.
The conference was really good. One of the keynote speakers was Craig Wyndham, a journalist and mental health professional from National Public Radio – he interviewed Irvin Yalom and then also gave his own keynote on the use of social media – he was really excellent speaker.
One of the other highlights was a workshop that I attended by two feminists on the problems with the proposed DSM-5. They were excellent, too. There is so much opposition to this system from so many different camps that it’s just mind-boggling. Hope you and your music therapist gang have voiced your concerns, too!
Just found out, Roia, that it’s very likely I’ll be headed to New Jersey in June. Will be in touch soon and hope to finally meet you face-to-face.
Roia says
I hear Craig Wyndham all the time on NPR! And to listen to Irvin Yalom live? I’m jealous. I love his books! I am so excited to hear you’re coming to NJ! That is going to be an insane (insane) month. I have two gigs, and we’re planning a music therapy retreat weekend, but, my gosh, let’s find a way to say hey in person! So cool. :- )
Tamara Suttle says
I’m kind of hoping to catch one of those gigs, Roia:) I can drive almost anywhere to share a bite to eat and meet! Will let you know as soon as I can get the firm dates. I would try to work around your schedule but . . . not up to me.
Roia says
We will find a way to make it happen! Hopefully by then my hand/thumb will be back in service (long story). Just give me a holler, and we will figure it out.

Welcome back, Tamara!
The photos of you ACA presentation intrigue me! It seems like everyone may have been pushing their personal envelops while having fun and learning in the process! Wish I could have been there!
I attended your CCA workshop, Private Practice 101, and even though I’ve had my practice open for just over a year, I walked away with new information and new ideas!
You’re a wonderful workshop leader, Tamara — you’re very generous with the sharing your knowledge and are sincerely interested in helping others while balancing their need to discover their own voice and who they are. You’re also lots of fun, inspiring, and very approachable (easy to ask questions of).
Welcome back, Tamara! You were missed I’m eager to read your blog posts again!

Barbara! Thanks so much for being such a great cheerleader! I’m so glad you found some useful tips at the Colorado Counseling Association’s annual conference. I really respect the work that you do, too, so your kind words are really treasured.
I’m actually hoping to be able to speak to more groups around the country later this year so let me know if know of needs for keynote speakers or 1/2 and full day facilitations. Working on my speaking calendar this morning and looking forward to meeting more mental health professionals in person!
Thanks, Barbara, for being part of our online community here and dropping in to chat! It’s really good to be back!

Hi Tamara!
Love the pictures! Just wanted to let you know how much our learning institute experience impacted me. You really encouraged me to stretch myself and show up authentically. Being able to be real about how we each respond to our experiences in our profession was such a gift and in many ways a relief. Knowing I wasn’t alone in my reactions gave me permission to later dive deeper and gently be there for myself as I discovered ways I could be more present for my clients. I was privileged to witness some powerful work this week and can’t imagine doing anything else! Thanks again!!!!!!
Oh! I passed on your card to a few people so be on the look out for some fellow Floridians!
Tamara Suttle says
Marie! Welcome to Private Practice from the Inside Out and thank you for sharing such heart-felt words. I so appreciate the feedback! You guys really surprised me at how willing you were to stretch among strangers who were also mental health professionals. I was so humbled that you trusted me to facilitate that work. And, I’m so glad to know that it planted seeds that you were later able to work with! That speaks volumes, Marie, about who you are as a person and as a clinician. Kudos to you!
I so appreciate you introducing my website and me to your colleagues in Florida. There’s no higher compliment than to have my name passed on to others that you respect. I’m always looking for an excuse to head south. Who knows, perhaps I’ll end up with an opportunity to come down there to do some work in Florida! Wouldn’t that be lovely?!
I do hope you’ll stay in touch and drop in often here to chat. We have a strong and growing community here online. You’ll find lots of information and support from us all. Blessings to you on your journey, Marie!
