Earlier this month, Kate Scribner, MSW, CSW posted a request on the Association for Women in Psychology’s discussion list looking for group space for a colleague.
That’s when I asked each of you to help me crowdsource ideas to help her out.
As usual . . . you guys came through!
So . . . for every psychotherapist and allied health professional out there who doesn’t have space in his or her office but wants to offer group therapy, psycho-educational classes, or workshops, here are 26+ places that you can find space to do the work that you need to do.
(Some are free. Some request donations. And, some charge a fee.)
- Local retreat centers
- Public libraries
- Restaurant’s private meeting rooms
- Backyards
- Community centers
- Churches
- High schools
- Co-working spaces like WorkStation and General Assembly
- Volunteer fire station (meeting room or social hall)
- Hotels
- Colleges / universities
- Lobbies and atriums of office buildings
- Banks and credit unions
- Doctors’ offices
- Colleagues’ offices
- Recreational areas such as parks
- Utility companies
- Hospitals
- Country clubs
- Senior centers
- Chambers of Commerce
- Rental homes
- Community meeting spaces in apartments
- Extra office space in your own building
- The Parish center
- Children’s homes
And, as an added bonus . . . Fred Theobold in Dallas, TX offered the following :
Contact you state ACA organization. In Texas the Texas Counseling Association has contracted rates with several different hotel chains for meeting rooms, etc. This works best for larger groups but you may be surprised at how inexpensive it can be if you take non-peak hours and the TCA not only makes the arrangements, they’ll advertise the event and help with registration for a small fee.”
Who knew that?! I love that!
Here is where you can read all the comments that came in on Crowdsourcing Space for Your Psychotherapy Groups, Classes, and Workshops.
If you know of other places to host yours or your colleagues’ work, please add them below (and don’t forget if they are location-specific to include that info, too)!

Wow! This is a goldmine of possibilities I had never considered. I’ve just pinned this to my secret Work Stuff Pinterest Board. Thanks!
Tamara Suttle says
Yea! So happy to inspire you! . . . so what’s up with that “secret Work Stuff . . . ” board? NOW you’ve got my curiosity up!
Mary Reilly Mathews, LCSWR says
sorry, I did not mean to sound mysterious. Pinterest allows you to create “secret” boards that are not visible to the public. I find it a great, easy way to stash & curate ideas I want to come back to later that I may not want / need to have visible to the public or that are not in line with the professional purpose of my pinterest activity…. one of my secret boards is titled Work Stuff…
Tamara Suttle says
Got it! Great idea, Mary, and happy to be included on your secret board!
