The First Year
This month marks the one year anniversary for this blog at Private Practice from the Inside Out and I owe you a bucket full of gratitude for helping me finish it up on such a positive note! Thanks so much for dropping in, offering suggestions, asking questions, and supporting each other. You have made it an awesome first year! Here are some stats to help you see how our community has grown and how far we’ve come together in twelve short months!
- We’ve had 1144 individuals drop in to visit.
- Our online community here includes visits from 46 different countries / territories.
- Of those who have chosen to subscribe i.e. get updates by email to this blog, over 56% of you have subscribed within your first 10 minutes of landing here.
Goals for Next Year
As for next year, I have several goals:
- I’m hoping that we’ll have well over 2000 visits to this site by then.
- I’m hoping that folks who drop in here will find the information and community so supportive that at least 75% of those who choose to subscribe by email will do so in less than the first 10 minutes they arrive here.
- And, I’m hoping that I’ll have visits from at least 50 different countries!
In order to meet these goals, I need your help. You can strengthen and grow our community by introducing your classmates, colleagues, instructors, and online peers to this blog.
Roll Call
And, finally, so many of you have written in asking . . . “Is there anyone here from . . .?” This seems like the perfect time for our first Roll Call! I hope you’ll take a few minutes to drop in below and let us know who you are, what you do, where you do it, and anything else that you might care to share. (And, feel free to give your private practice a plug, too!)
That way we’ll all know who’s hanging out here in our online community!
I look forward to meeting you!

Is anyone from Wisconsin?
Or northern Illinois?
Are there any psychodramatists, creative arts therapists or others doing non-conventional therapy?
Are there any holistic psychiatrists?
Jill Osborne says
I work as a child and family therapist at Pathways Transition Programs in Georgia. I am also the author of “Sam Feels Better Now: An Interactive Story for Children,” a workbook for children who have experienced trauma.
Tamara says
Karen and Jill, thanks for letting us know you are out there and where you are! I’m wondering where everyone else is! I can see the traffic on the site and know I’ve chatted with a lot of you guys.
Come on! Speak up! Tell us who you are and what you do!

Hello, Everyone!
I am finishing my MACC, even as we speak, and will sit for the NCE in Aug/Sept. I’m interested in working in settings that encourage spiritual considerations in treatment of clients. I’m in Dallas, Texas.
Tamara says
Hi, Fred! Thanks for taking a moment to sign in here. Congrats on finishing your Master’s Degree!
I don’t remember knowing that you are from Dallas. I lived there until 2002 and still have quite a few connections. Feel free to email me back channel at Tamara at TamaraSuttle dot com if I can help you network a bit there!

Howdy All, I am in Denver and graduated May 8, 2010 from Regis Unversity. I started my own private practice May 10, 2010. I lease an office at People House http://www.peoplehouse.org. It is a center for personal and spiritual growth. I signed up for Tamara’s blog in September 2009. I tell everybody about it…. I mean everybody. I have listened to a lot of advice from Tamara’s blog. Such as, putting myself out there before I graduated using business cards and networking. It has paid off! Additionally, I have discovered many other great blogs and websites I find informative.
I am in the process of defining my niche and will create a blog by September. My focus is CREATING YOUR BEYOND. I work with adult survivors who are ready to create a life beyond loss. I will rename and redesign my website into a web blog. Currently you can visit http://www.crossroadscounseling.com to learn more about me. Jill Osborne ~ I will be checking out your book “Sam Feels Better Now.” Tamara…congratulations on your first year anneversary! Keep it up!
Tamara says
Thanks so much, Brenda, for being one of my loyal readers! You’ve been with me almost since the beginning!
Hey, you said you’ve found other terrific resources so . . . how about sharing those with us here so that we can all benefit?!
Looking forward to hearing from you . . . especially how that practice of yours is taking off!

Tamara says
Hi, Verline! Thanks for signing up for our first annual Roll Call!I didn’t realize that you are in Wyoming and what does NCU stand for? You’re not too far from CO so if you’re ever headed south, let me know and I’ll try to meet you somewhere and share a bite to eat!

Tamara,
Some of the resources I utilize I discovered from reading your blog which you have listed in the left column of this page. I read David P. Dianna and have bought his book Marketing for the Mental Health Professional. I liked the Niche Doctor Lynda Falkenstein and Links for Shrinks. Others I read: The Biz Savvy Therapist by Susan Guirleo, Passion for Business-focus about small business not mental health Karyn Greenstreet and lastly Business Success for Therapist by Laura Dessauer. Tamara says
Welcome back, Brenda! I’m chuckling as I read your library because it’s looking very much like mine! I do love David’s blog and I’m about 50 pages into his book . . . . Trying to read it so I can write up a post on it. I haven’t read Susan’s book or Passion for Business and Business Success for Therapist. Now that you’ve mentioned them, I’ll have to check them all out! Thanks for sharing your library with us!

Hi Tamara and All,
I am a MS Mental Health Counseling student at Walden University – a rigorous and demanding hybrid program. I was introduced to this site through the counselorgrads listserv. This is beginning to be one of my regularly visited sites for information, resources, insight from Tamara and seasoned practitioners.
Although I have 18 months until graduation and only 10 months until practicum and internship, the time is passing more swiftly with each course I take. It feels as though I am traveling on a moving train at such speed that there is little time to internalize all that I am learning. As a student I am immersed in the theory and mounds of literature that are providing the foundation for my knowledge base, and look to those who are practicing to help make it real.
I reflect a great deal on the awesome responsibility in accompanying clients on their journey and the trust they place in us during some of the most vulnerable times of their lives. My focus is on taking advantage of every opportunity to learn.
Tamara says
Hi, Sue! And, welcome! Thanks for introducing yourself here! This site is so heavily trafficked that I’m surprised that so few have yet to check in here. Statistically, though, it is common knowledge that only about 10% of blog or online discussion lists readers actually every include their voice. Most just lurk quietly. Glad you spoke up. I look forward to hearing from you again soon!
But, you didn’t tell us where you are physically! Care to share?
Sue McGilloway says
Thank you for reminding me to include my location. I am in Columbia, MD, a suburb midway between Washington, DC and Baltimore, and would appreciate finding clinicians in my area who are practicing in this area.
Tamara says
Excellent, Sue! I know we’ve got other folks from your area lurking here. Come on gang . . . find your people!:)
Diana Pitaru says
Hello Tamara and hopefully soon-to-be friends 🙂
My name is Diana, I am Romanian (born and raised in Romania) but I’ve been living in the US for the past year and a half. I currently reside in Texas (DFW area) and attend the MS in Mental Health Counseling at Walden University. I’ve taken about 30 credits with University of Maryland, but I had to move and here I am starting the program again (well, they transferred 5 courses but still). I am interested in eating disorders/mood disorders/personality disorders. I feel a deep connection with the Gestalt approach and also CBT. I have a BA in Political Comm and PR and about 10 years experience in this arena, but close to none in counseling…scary! I want to do my internship in an eating disorders clinic and my practicum in an institution that practices art/music/play therapy…I wonder how I will find this last place in Texas 🙂 jk. Anyways, my plan is to graduate, take my NCE and then go back to Europe…not necessarily in Romania, but somewhere I won’t need a car to get from point A to point B (and here was the world’s smallest violin). Anyways, in the meanwhile I would love to find students or therapists in my area to learn more and possibly collaborate in a small research project? Just throwing it out there since research is one of my interests..
Thank you Tamara for inviting me to post here and hope to learn a lot from your site!
Diana
